Description

The Elves have centuries to master any art they wish, including the arts of war. Although they are not a war-like race, as it is against their nature, their natural reflexes, agility and strength made them incredible warriors. They are also brave and honorable, as they are immortal and forever bound to the world. Death means a journey (or in the case of the Noldor, a journey back) to the Halls of Mandos, on the undying lands, where all Elves will one day reside.

The elite elvish warriors are known as the Bladeweavers or Hatholnathron. They are clad in a thin yet light and very strong metal armor of unmatched quality. The exact composition of the metal is unknown but mithril is suspected to be part of it. Underneath the armor, the warriors wear chain-linked mail of light metal and blue dyed underclothing. The color of the armor is yellow with a greenish hue, like the color of spring, representing the mood of the elvish kingdoms, as they are at the new spring of their power. It also symbolized renewal and rebirth. The naturalistic shapes of plants inspire the shape of the armor and the helmet. The intricacies of the design and the complex craftsmanship required in making the elvish armor have never been match by anyone in the world.

For their primary weapon, the Bladeweavers carry an elvish longsword, the lhang, a culmination in shape, functionality and aesthetics. It is a curved long blade made of the finest steel, with a long handle, as the warrior would wield it with both hands. They hold the sword close to their torso vertically and for the first strike they would rotate it backward and pulling it into a diagonal upward slashing motion. The movement must be fast and precise and requires such great skill that only the Elves have ever mastered it. The function of this technique is two-fold: first, the impact point of the blade would be to the lower body part of the target which is often exposed or revealed a weakness in most armor and defense stances. Secondly, the result of the motion would be the positioning of the blade in which it is ready for a downswing second attack, either to finish off the opponent or for the one behind him. For a race that despises violence and killing, the Elves perfected the art of death in the battlefield.

I've been wanting to draw one of these for months... Finally put myself to it yesterday, with the result on your screen!

Enjoy! :)

This is some wonderful work. The armor that the Noldor wear has always been on of my favorite. I also like the description as well, it's very informative.
